Hercules No. 4 is a piano-style hand engine that was manufactured by James Smith of New York circa 1860. Purchased used from Jersey City, it arrived in Newton in 1863 and could shoot a stream of water 25 feet higher than the spire of the Methodist Church.

This is a hand-drawn hose carriage that was manufactured sometime in the late 1800's.
Other Items

This model of a hand pumper was given as a gift from Hoboken Fire Department Ex-Chief William A. Willig to the Newton Steamer Company in 1895. This is a working model that can project a stream of water 35 feet!

This is a silver water service set that was presented to the Steamer Company as a gift in the late 1800s.

Our collection includes many pieces of our original Gamewell fire alarm system. These alarm boxes were installed throughout town in 1897, and were the primary method of reporting a fire for many years.

The museum has many different types of uniforms and turnout gear on display.
